We are at the halfway mark of February, 2016 and we are going to start a monthly feature where we focus on the most expensive drone available on Amazon.com.
For this month, the winner is… DJI Inspire 1 PRO with eDig “Fly All Day” Bundle!
This drone (actually a kit or bundle) isn’t eligible for Amazon Prime, however, free ground shipping is included in the $9,999.99 price tag. Ground shipping will get the package to you in about two weeks, but expedited shipping is available for an additional fee.
Unsurprisingly, this expensive drone package has not been reviewed.
The drone itself comes with a one year limited warranty. The battery has a 6 month / 200 cycle limited warranty.
What does one get with this impressively priced bundle? An incredibly long list of items. Highlights include:
- 1 each DJI Inspire 1 PRO UAV (includes 4K camera, 360 degree shooting, and is on sale by itself for $4,369.00 at Amazon)
- 1 each Zenmuse X5 Camera (sells for $2,248 with lens outside of this kit)
- 2 each transmitters
- 2 each iPad Air tablets
- 1 each Osmo Handle
- Various Batteries
- Memory cards, cleaning cloths, etc…
When pondering a $10,000 drone kit purchase, the first question is “is it worth it”? By a couple of different measures, we think it is. The purchase price, while high, saves a buyer roughly (we say roughly because there are numerous items in this kit, each with a few different prices and shipping options, and prices change each day) $1,200.00 compared to buying everything included separately.
Also, if this is the drone you want, the convenience factor is just incredible. The DJI Inspire 1 Pro included with this kit has updated motors, the kit includes two remotes so that one person can pilot while another works the camera, and the benefit of having only one source for all of these items cannot be overstated. You will only have one point of contact for technical assistance, and in case of a defect or shipping damage, any returned goods will only go to one place. As for purchasing everything in this kit individually, you would end up with a box in your house that you gradually filled as many different Amazon deliveries bring components to you.
As for the drone itself…
The DJI Inspire 1 Pro was released in September, 2015. It is a large, professional drone that comes in at a hefty 6.5 pounds. Like the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the Inspire 1 Pro is constructed of carbon fiber. The three axis stabilization system does not rely on GPS, rather, it works with input from its camera. Therefore, the Inspire 1 Pro can maintain its stability indoors. So if you can get the authorities to let you fly yours in the Superdome, you are all set! The drone is ready to fly when it arrives. Using a proprietary technology called DJI Lightbridge, the Inspire 1 Pro transmits live HD/4K video. Depending on which of the included batteries you use, you will get between 18 and 22 minutes of flight time.
The Pro version of the DJI Inspire 1 includes the Zenmuse X5 camera which captures 4K video. The non-Pro version comes standard with the Zenmuse X3. The X5 is a much more advanced camera system than the X3 and may be the best aerial camera available for civilians.
Several different lenses are available for the Zenmuse X5, including the DJI MFT 15mm lens included in this kit. This lens sells for $629.00 plus shipping on Amazon, so the inclusion of this lens is an important part of this bundle. Depth of field, focus, and aperture can all be controlled remotely.
In summary, what do you get with this bundle? Arguably the best civilian drone available. Arguably the best civilian camera available. Arguably the best civilian lens available. Cutting edge transmission technology. And all the supporting equipment and tools you need to launch as soon as everything arrives in one clean shipment. All for less than if you purchased the components individually. IF you want a DJI Inspire 1 Pro, and IF you have $10,000 to spend, than we highly recommend this bundle.
If drones in this price range aren’t fitting into your budget just yet, we understand. We are also going to write about the best drones at the very bottom of the price range each month. Look for that post soon!
